Bantu Hope Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Hilltop Columbus, Ohio dedicated to serving the Somali Bantu community with a profound commitment to empowering, inspiring, and advocating for lasting positive change. Our mission centers around providing tailored social services that address the unique challenges faced by this resilient community.

Our educational initiatives are crafted to empower individuals with knowledge and skills, fostering self-sufficiency and resilience. Through inclusive health and wellness programs, we prioritize the well-being of community members, recognizing the importance of culturally sensitive services.

Our Story

The Bantu Hope Foundation originated from the collective vision of like-minded individuals committed to fostering enduring positive change within their community.

The Bantu Hope Foundation, led by community members, emerged from personal experiences navigating the challenges of the west side of Columbus. Despite facing adversity, we emerged resilient and with smiles. Our primary objective is to diminish gun violence and crime while enhancing the skills and knowledge of every community member through initiatives that address genuine community needs. Our mission revolves around empowering Somali Bantu voices, uplifting the community, and providing accurate support to families in need.

Our Focus

Bantu Hope Foundation aspires to serve as the primary resource for supporting the Somali Bantu community. Understanding the fears and hesitations prevalent among community members, coupled with the challenges of navigating a new country, we empathize with their concerns. With a keen awareness of the unique obstacles facing the Somali Bantu community, we leverage our experience and understanding of their needs. Through strategic partnerships and the utilization of our resources, our overarching goal is to dismantle barriers and cultivate connections that contribute to the establishment of a healthy and flourishing community.

Our Team

The Bantu Hope Foundation is made up of dedicated community members who have firsthand experience with the needs of our community. Our team includes family ambassadors, prevention specialists, bilingual assistants, and community elders, all united by a common goal—to inspire, advocate for, and empower every member of the Somali Bantu community for mutual improvement and support.

Abdi Amin

Abdi Amin serves as a Prevention Specialist at Columbus Public Health, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to his role. With a commendable five-year tenure within the Somali Bantu community as a mentor coach and liaison, Abdi has become an integral part of the community’s health and well-being initiatives. His affiliation with the Health Department underscores a commitment to preventative health measures and community-centric interventions.

Maganey Mohamed

 Mageney Mohamed serves as a Bilingual Assistant, contributing her expertise to both the Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services (ETSS) and Columbus City Schools. In her capacity, Maganey plays a vital role as a linguistic bridge, facilitating effective communication and providing invaluable support to individuals navigating language barriers within these integral community institutions.

Saharo Amin serves as a dedicated Family Ambassador within the Columbus City School district, embodying a pivotal role in building bridges between educators and families.
